Small Farm Conference a Success
People on one of five tours offered were treated to a beautiful time out with nature, snow capped Sequoia mountains in the distance, and exciting and rewarding stops at various farms. On Sunday the crop/people diversity tour visited a Hispanic farmer converting from vegetables in tunnels to almonds; a Hmong farmer growing specialty Asian vegetables such as sour leaf in hoop houses, bittermelon, jujubes, 5-acres of organic; Sun West Packing where they grow 11 varieties of navel oranges, 4 varieties of mandarins, 20 varieties of plums, wind machines, and a hail buster cannon; and special treat to Paul Buxman painter and president of California Clean Association discussing his commitment to growing in harmony with nature, integrity in marketing produce, and a special playing of his viola.
