A Busy Spring For Cooperative Extension Master Gardeners of Fresno County
Speakers throughout the day included University of California Cooperative Extension scientists who spoke on topics ranging from irrigation and soil to weed management and bees, as applied in the home garden. They were joined by local professionals in garden design, landscape trees and Master Gardeners who spoke on Square Foot gardening, Permaculture, rose care and other topics requested by attendees at the 2010 conference. Co-sponsor of the event, Fresno Metropolitan Flood Control District, speaker Daniel Rourke presented information about the unique flood control system in the Fresno/Clovis area, described by one attendee as, “recommended for every citizen”.
On March 2-4. Master Gardeners presented a series of gardening seminars at the Fresno Home and Garden Show. Among the topics presented were how to grow blueberries, how to create an eco-friendly home garden, and the most wanted bugs to be on the lookout for. At the nearby Master Gardener booth, docents answered questions from home gardeners including those about the next Master Gardener training class to be held January through April, 2013. Preparations are under way for the annual Spring Garden Tour Saturday, April 28 and Kids Garden Day on Saturday, May 12. Information about these upcoming events can be found on the website.
